Pursuing new education philosophy, the school carries out progressive education reform. The school has been upgrading its education curricula and strengthening its education capital construction. Aiming at fostering students with great versatility and wide adaptability, it seeks after a set of modular teaching programs fit for its own mode, shifting the emphasis from passing on knowledge to improving students’ quality while transferring knowledge. The number and grade of the prizes the students win in all kinds of national and provincial competitions are steadily going up. In 2003, the students won one first prize and one second prize in the National “Challenging Cup” Competition, one second prize in the National Mathematics Module-making Competition, six students won the first prize, fifteen the second prize, and 32 the third prize in the National English Contest, and the students won the only one special prize in the first Competition of Mechanics Innovation for the university students in Jiangsu province. And in 1998, the school passed successfully the assessment of its undergraduate-level teaching by the Ministry of Education. 　　The university has won the title of Refined University of Jiangsu for a row of 14 years. It got honored as ExcellentSchool in the School-Spirit Construction of Jiangsu universities, Refined School of Jiangsu, School of Security in Jiangsu, ExcellentUniversity in implementing Regulations Regarding Physical Education at Schools, and National Model Home of Staff and so on. It has been cited for its students’ social practice by the Department of Publicity of the Party Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League for 14 times.
